Dr. Roger J. Goudy 2014 - 2020 Forty-seventh president of the AAU. Dr. Goudy held an AAU leadership position for 30+ years including National Secretary before becoming the AAU President in 2014. He is Chairman for the sport of Volleyball and lead the growth of the sport to the second largest sport in the AAU with each year breaking participation records. The AAU Girls Junior National Volleyball Championships were recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s largest volleyball tournament in 2012, a record the event has broken each year since. Dr. Goudy developed a relationship with Visit Orlando which estimated a $52 million economic impact per year by the Girls volleyball event. He implemented the AAU Cares and AAU Proud programs. The AAU Cares program is the AAU’s way of giving back to the communities in which it hosts programming. The AAU organization strives to provide not only athletic opportunities but also lessons in learning, life and social responsibility in the community. The AAU Proud program provides athletic activities and sport skills to children aged 4-7 in a non-competitive environment that promotes self-confidence while staying active. During his tenure, the AAU has welcomed a new AAU office on the West Coast to help continue to grow the AAU in all areas of the country. He created the Gussie Crawford Lifetime Achievement Award in honor of the AAU’s only female president dedicated to recognizing those athletes whose efforts both, on and off their playing surface on the national or international stage, have paved the way for great change in Amateur Sports. He signed a partnership for youth athletics for the AAU Track and Field program with Carl Lewis, one of the greatest athletes in Olympic history called The Perfect Method. Dr. Goudy brought the AAU James E. Sullivan Award back to its home, the New York Athletic Club. He has also lead the AAU to the far east visiting China on behalf of the AAU in June 2017 meeting with various leaders of the country, encouraging them to send teams to compete in AAU events in the U.S. Before becoming AAU president, Dr. Goudy was a Superintendent of Schools for the Madison District in Ohio from 2008-2016. Dr. Goudy, holds a Doctorate Degree in Educational Administration from the University of Akron, a Master of Science Degree in Sport and Recreation Management from the University of Idaho and was in the Weatherhead Professional Fellows Program from the Weatherhead School of Management, Case Western Reserve University. A member of the AAU Hall of Fame, Dr. Goudy has been honored as SportsEvents Magazine’s Sports Event Planners to Watch in 2017 and 2018, NASC’s Event Organizer to Watch and Orlando Business Journal’s CEO’s of the Year along with Disney Sports National Volunteer of the Year twice.
